If you choose the "land-only" option, you can still take advantage of the premium insurance plan and its coverage. You would receive the same coverage as those on the "complete tour". The only catch is that if you have to make flight adjustments, you would be responsible for making those calls to the airline, since you are the one who made the initial flight arrangements. The tour company will assist, but you would be responsible.
On the "Travel Protection Form", you will see a table of "trip costs" and "premium costs". Use the following calculation to determine your "trip cost".
Take the cost of the "land-only" option = $2099
Add the cost of your airline ticket
Subtract $600, which is the amount of insurance already included
Using the result, look in the table under "trip cost" for the amount of your insurance premium.
For example, let's say you got a really good deal and the cost of your flights is $1200. Then, the calculation would be
2099 + 1200 - 600 = $2699
Using the table, the premium cost for a trip costing $2699 is $192.00
You do NOT have to supply information about your ticketing to the travel company. If, however, you have to make a claim, then you would need to provide documentation of the flight costs.
